Oh how I wish in my heart that U.S.-Russian relations looked like the love-fest between Moscow and Beijing. Every time there is a meeting between Putin and Xi there is so much fanfare with good spirits and a feeling that humanity is on the right track. And even better, besides the hearty handshakes, there are usually all sorts of deals being signed to continually increase mutually beneficial cooperation right there on the table. This is what I would love to see happen between Putin and Trump, or should I say between any leaders of Russia and the USA going forward. My heart wants this oh so dearly, but my mind steps in to remind it that this is unlikely to happen any time soon, and we should swallow a juicy black reality pill rather than reporting our feelings.
Thus, when seeing the nature of negotiations changing between Washington and Moscow half of me sees the light at the end of the tunnel, and the other half sees the Anglo-Saxons trying to sucker in the Russians yet again with magical beads and empty promises as they do oh so well. So let’s take a look at recent events from both an optimistic and pessimistic view simultaneously, to see if the War in Ukraine is really winding down.
When Ratcliffe seemed to suddenly, from the public’s and the uninformed EU officials’ standpoint, visit Moscow out of nowhere, this seemed like a sign that the war is winding down. Of course the Mainstream Media told us that he went to Russia to threaten Putin personally, that if he ‘attacked Europe’ there would be dire consequences. But since Covid, everything Big Media says is a lie and often an inverse of reality, if the great deceivers CNN and the BBC merged they would surely birth the Anti-Christ. There has been much speculation as to why Ratcliffe used a massive transport aircraft for his journey. One theory that seems the most reasonable is that he was collecting a lot of dead bodies of Americans, and perhaps accurately American intelligence units, that were lost in Ukraine. If this is true, then Ratcliffe himself should have been able to see, and heartbreakingly to me, smell the failure of project Ukraine directly. It is important to note that this surprise visit occurred after Russia ramped up massive retaliatory strikes against Zelensky’s 40 days of terror that were supposed to break the morale of the Russian public by attacking things like Wildberries, gasoline infrastructure, and all sorts of other targets, many of them civilian, to bring the pain to Russia. It was widely believed in the West that the Russians didn’t used scorched Earth tactics in Ukraine because they couldn’t. We all engage in psychological projection and the West is known for fighting by indiscriminately killing from the sky, thus they expect their enemies to do the same, or else that means they are just too weak to do so. Russia’s retaliation to the ‘40 days’ was quite potent. Supposedly to get payback for Wildberries or to eliminate masked military targets, all the marketplace type warehouses and facilities in Ukraine were blown up, along with the majority of their gas stations for making Russians queue up for petrol and using them to fuel up their military. Zelensky also seems to be out of air defense, so the Russian side is hitting every target it wants, when it wants. Despite the presence of yes-men and lobbyists, Director Ratcliffe is surely aware of this fact as is President Trump. It now looks to all parties like the Kremlin wants to wrap this thing up and most importantly is very capable of wrapping it up. The strikes of the summer of 2026 have certainly sent a potent message abroad about whom they are actually dealing with.
All this is to say that Ratcliffe’s visit is surely connected to Russia’s massive, tangible and justified escalation in response to Zelensky’s 40 days of terror campaign.
We should also note that President Trump has nothing bad to say about counterpart Putin to the media. He has denied over and over again that the Russian leader would ever try to invade Europe. Trump always portrays him as a man with whom you can make a deal. It would be great if the American President truly felt that ‘the spirit of Anchorage’ could be achieved and that relations between the USA and Russian Federation could finally and truly be ‘reset’ without any misprinted buttons. But the global fuel crisis is probably the real motivator for any peace, which will ultimately, and very sadly, be temporary. Russia supposedly, has been limiting its exports of diesel, the Strait of Hormuz is dominated by Iran, Venezuela has heavy crude and they won’t be producing for a while anyways, that is to say, there is way less diesel fuel out there than is being demanded. The U.S. economy is already in a precarious position with massive debt and even massive deindustrialization and bureaucratization, but having a 1970s style oil crisis pop up due to a lack of diesel fuel could create huge unignorable problems for Trump and his team. So why not make peace with the Russians to get some black gold?
Essentially, these new meetups in Moscow and Kiev that could be attempts to end the war, probably have a lot to do with the diesel crisis than stopping the suffering of the victims of the war.
Interestingly, when Kushner and Witkoff, went to Kiev after Moscow, they first had a public meeting then a private one. Perhaps this was to deal out some very bad news? Perhaps this was a sign that Zelensky may have to go into retirement in Miami or join the list of former U.S. ‘friends’ in the afterlife? Well it could also have been a coke and jokes session about how they have tricked the entire Russian media again into believing that peace is nigh. Many in Russia are speculating that because the Trump envoys and President Putin met in the ‘red room’ and that they received a mysterious ‘red folder, that this is some sort of sign of victory. It is true there is a lot of symbolism and message sending in politics but President Putin only likes to say and do things when he is 100% sure about them. He does not ‘shoot from the hip’ with symbolism and messaging unlike Donald Trump, who uses it at an unprecedented and almost industrial scale. This is not a criticism of Trump but a fact of his behavior, when Putin uses symbolism you can bet on it confidently.
While the envoys are working hard, the supposed rift between the EU and USA continues to widen. The failure in Iran proves many things about the decline of the Monopolar World but for this discussion it shines light on one key thing – when DC wanted support from NATO ‘allies’ they did absolutely nothing, or maybe in broader terms it showed that NATO as an alliance is a farce. And this farce Trump has always been critical of. For him he either wants it to be profitable for the U.S. or for it to end, and it is looking like the latter is probably going to be the case. Germany, France and the UK are all on a mission to somehow restore themselves and quickly learn to live without America’s marines, but this dream is a farce as only Germany has some limited industry left and none of have a population ready to die on Russian bayonets for the glory of Epstein Island. As the memes say “it’s over”.
In closing, it must be stated that the delicately calculating, pragmatic but humane political legacy of Russian President Vladimir Putin has not been thrown away. We can see the shelves are empty in Ukraine and signs of a horrific humanitarian crisis loom on the horizon after recent escalations, meaning that the Russian side is sure this is soon to end. The whole point of going in was to ‘save the Donbass’ and its Russian speakers, and that has not changed. The Kremlin does not want to bring suffering and misery to people that it considers to be its own and may shortly rule over. Therefore, we can only presume that ‘they know something we don’t’ and that this war will wrap up before mass famine and deaths from cold start to really rack up. Or perhaps that is my inherent optimism and naiveté speaking?
My heart sees the war as nearly over, but my mind knows not to have faith in one word from 21st century Washington DC.
